Snowman Luminary Craft Holiday Decoration
My son is at an age that he LOVES to ride around and look at Christmas decorations. And, because of this, he also feels that our house should now have decorations! What is a FRUGAL girl to do? The cost of the decorations every year could break the bank. I think a compromise is in order, so we decided to use things we had around the house to make some cute decorations to line our sidewalk to the front of our house.
My son was thrilled with the idea of having craft time together and making snowmen. He has always loved snowmen and used to call them scarecrows when he was smaller, so this momma likes to make things and reminisce with him. We set to work at finding all that we needed to make our luminaries from things around the house.
My 6-year old was able to help with all of it. I had to supervise when it came to gluing because we used a hot glue gun< and I cut the back open with a razor blade, but otherwise, he was able to design, cut and glue all of these.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a great project to do with your older kiddo if you use a glue gun. You can try E6000 glue to be able to do it with younger kids.
Supplies needed
- Milk Jug(s)
- Black and various color Pom poms
- Red & White Pipe Cleaners
- Orange and Black Felt
- String of lights
- Glue Gun or other glue
- Rock(s) if placing outside
- Razor Blade/Box Knife/Exacto Knife
Directions
- Cut out eyes from black felt
- Cut out nose from orange felt
- Twist one white and red pipe cleaner together
- Glue eyes, nose and black pom pom mouth on
- Glue the pipe cleaner from one side of the head to the other and place desired pom pom on either side
- Cut a hole in the back of the jug to insert a rock and some white lights
- Put it inside or out for a lovely display
CAUTION: It probably goes without saying, but please take care when using the hot glue and razor blades around children. Keep out of reach until you are able to supervise or do it undisturbed.
