May Day Basket
I’ve always looked forward to May 1, because it’s a sign of Spring. After all April Showers bring May Flowers!
From Wikipedia: Fading in popularity since the late 20th century is the giving of “May baskets”, small baskets of sweets and/or flowers, usually left anonymously on neighbours’ doorsteps
Here are some super cute May Day Baskets you can make at home. Leave them anonymously for friends and neighbors to brighten their day – and welcome Spring!

May Day baskets are a great time to reuse your unwanted Easter basket from last month! Just fill with goodies and flowers and add a custom handmade “happy May Day” tag!
Make Your Own May Day Basket
What you’ll need: construction paper, tape/glue/stapler, scissors, markers/crayons/colored pencils, foam cutouts, etc.
The May Day Cone (easy!)
This is a great craft to do with young kids!
- Simply wrap a piece of paper into a cone shape
- Tape, glue or staple in place
- Trim off top to be straight
- Add a handle
- Decorate and fill your basket (see below)
- Hang on door knob and run!
May Day Bouquet (medium)
This one is slightly more involved, and adds an extra bit of class to your basket.
- Cut paper into strips
- Use one strip as the basket’s top, and attach the other strips to hang down and form a bottom
- Trim top to be straight
- Add a handle
- Decorate and fill your basket (see below)
- Hang on door knob and run!
Ideas to decorate and fill your basket
- Optionally, cut out shapes or use foam pieces (dollar stores often have these), or draw pictures or designs on your basket to make it more festive
- Fill with treats, candy, snacks, bracelets, small toys, etc.
- Add flowers: Trim a few flowers with short stems, wet a napkin and fold into 1/4 size, wrap with plastic wrap and tie with a twist tie, place in basket
- Hang your May Day Basket on someone’s door knob and run! ๐
